2. Mrs. Shewmake's 1st and 2nd Grade Classroom
.
Welcome to the first and second grade classroom which serves as a bridge for students from being dependent to independent learners. These years are stepping-stones for students as they are learning to become active, productive, participants in the greater learning community.  Students are eager to learn, with questions galore and thrive on being actively involved in their learning environment.  During these years, individual responsibility is a characteristic that each child needs and is developed through caring for one's own school items, classroom supplies, schoolwork, homework and demonstrating respect for others. Responsibility is essential in their social development.

Every
child can learn.  Each one of us are created in the image of God and are given gifts and talents to develop.  Each child has a distinct temperament, physical characteristics, and personality.  He or she also has a particular way of learning called a learning style--the way a person best takes in, understands and remembers information.  As the teacher, I believe that it is important to both discover and understand each child's blend of talents or gifts.  I will strive to motivate and assist each student in the journey of learning to their fullest potential while developing a personal enjoyment in all areas of their educational experience.
